In this personal blog, Xin Sun, a graduate nursing student from China who is pursuing her masters here at UL reflects on her time here so far. She talks about what the student life is like here at UL from the numerous clubs and societies to occassion themed parties on campus.
As a student ambassador, I am delighted and eager to share my enriching experiences during my first 50 days of university life. Hailing from China, I arrived in Ireland on a sunny day, and despite hearing about the frequent rains before my arrival, the rain has brought a breath of fresh air to this land. Since coming here, I have deeply felt the warmth of the Irish people. Unlike China, where people are often reserved, I particularly appreciate the open and friendly nature of the people here, which presents an interesting contrast to the rainy weather.

Currently, I actively participate in various clubs, including dance, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, hiking, rock climbing, and the philosophy club. The campus boasts top-notch sports facilities, including a swimming pool, running tracks, climbing walls, and a wide range of well-maintained fitness equipment. For someone like me who loves sports, this place is simply a paradise. However, for those who prefer tranquility and are not as enthusiastic about sports, the campus offers a rich selection of activities, such as the philosophy club, painting and crafts, yoga, and more. These clubs and activities provide opportunities for every student to explore their interests and make new friends. Whether you are a sports enthusiast or a student who prefers a quieter life, you can find a social circle that interests you here.

Not long ago, I attended my first-ever Halloween-themed party, and witnessing my fellow students’ spectacular makeup and creative costumes made the experience unforgettable. I love the University of Limerick not only for the diversity of campus life but also because it is a smoke-free campus. The air is remarkably fresh, making each day’s breath invigorating. The convenience of living in on-campus dorms and the 24-hour patrols provide a strong sense of security.

Now, as Ireland embraces autumn, the campus is adorned with the picturesque beauty of fallen leaves. Every day on my way to classes, I pass by the Shannon River and the Living Bridge, where I can admire the beautiful maple leaves along the road. In that moment, it feels like being in a fairy tale world, surrounded by the beauty of nature. I have a deep affection for my University of Limerick, as the campus life here is brimming with diversity and wonderful moments.
