In this blog, Study Abroad Student, Safiye Yasan, reviews her experience studying in the University of Limerick, sharing anecdotes about her new life, alongside her new community!

Studying Abroad has been my goal since I started high
school, and I have finally achieved it – currently studying
at University of Limerick during the spring semester of my
first-year in college, coming from University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill!

The best part of my study abroad experience
has been learning about the Irish culture,
meeting other international students, and
attending the activities, trips, and cultural events organized by UL Global. Being able to explore Ireland and studying at the same time
has been very rewarding. I can’t wait to make
many more memories during my time here at
UL and Ireland!

We are almost into the 7th week of classes here at UL,
but it feels like it was yesterday that I landed in Shannon
Airport. Time has flown so quickly, and my time at UL has
been so fun!

Starting from the very first week I’ve been at UL, it was
really fun to immerse into the Irish Culture, guided by the
orientations and events organized on campus. My
favorite events include learning Irish slang and phrases,
and the Celtics Steps show. My study abroad friends
and I love saying, “Any craic?” to each other and we still
mention the Celtics show time to time.

Once classes started, exploring the campus and finding
our classes were an experience. The Main Building was
very confusing and it felt like a maze. I remember
walking around for 15 minutes trying to find our class on
the first day with my friend. Looking back, it’s a funny
memory as now we know our way around.

UL has a beautiful campus. Going to morning
classes when the sky is very pretty, seeing all
the daffodils around campus while walking
around, going on bike rides on the weekends
when the sun is out, and taking walks around
the trails have been really nice, relaxing, and
fun. I also appreciate the amount of food
places that are around campus. My favorite
place to go for breakfast is Paddocks, they
have delicious breakfast sandwiches!
