UL Musical Theatre Society

Here at UL Musical Theatre Society (or ULMTS) we’re knuckling down in quarantine to give the best possible Musical Theatre experience we can, fully virtually! As a new society launched directly into quarantine 2 months after being set up, we have immediately changed our plans to accommodate these difficult times and have been striving to keep the magic of Musical Theatre alive.

We have a lot scheduled for this semester, so whatever your preference is we hope you’ll be able to do it here! Whether you’re looking to improve your skills, perform your heart out, or just hang out with fellow Musical Theatre nuts, we have you covered!

We’re currently running a West End Masterclass Series, with several West End professionals running workshops on dancing, acting singing, and getting involved with professional musical theatre. We’re having workshops with the Dance Captain of Lion King on the West End Sherry Tae, West end star and Commitments star Brian Gilligan, and Killian Donnely, who has played Valjean in the touring production of Les Miserables, Charlie in Kinky Boots on the West End, and The Phantom in the 2020 UK Tour of Phantom of the Opera. These workshops, which would usually cost upwards of €50 each, are available for €6 each per ULMTS member, and they’re a great opportunity to improve your skills, learn a bit, and just enjoy this fantastic opportunity!

If you’re looking to perform we’re also taking part in the musical theatre college Intervarsities this semester. We’ll be performing a 20 minute condensed version of “Sister Act” and competing with other college societies around Ireland to pick the best 20 minute musical. We also have more performance opportunities in the latter half of the semester, so make sure to follow our Instagram to keep up to date!

Finally, if you’re just a musical theatre lover looking to meet like-minded friends and break up the monotony of lockdown, come join us on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 onwards for some light social night activities. Whether we’re having a musical watch party, a quiz, a competition, or just hanging out and listening to show tunes, we’re sure you’ll make some new friends there.

So as you can see, we’ve got a lot lined up for this semester, so we hope you can join us to make lockdown a little more bearable!
