The absolute best thing I did during my time here at UL was to join a club or society.
At the beginning of each semester, the clubs and societies host an event that lets you talk to every group you’re interested in joining. From this, I found the Environmental Society!
In my own life, I try to be as environmentally conscious as I can. However, Environmental Society provided me with the opportunity to teach others about the easy choices they can make to make the world a better place. I got the chance to build a couple bird houses, teach children at the Crèche on campus, and help out at the student-led second-hand market!
While I had a fantastic time with my society, I think the bigger message is that joining a club or society is one of the greatest choices you can make while you are abroad. It is amazing to get connected with people who have similar interests and passions to you halfway across the world. The people you meet will hopefully be some of the best friends you make while you are abroad! I know I met some amazing people and I will always treasure the things we all did together.
