“UL is craic!”// “UL macht Spaß!”

Week 4 in UL is Languages Week, and we will be celebrating the rich diversity of languages right here on campus! To help us celebrate European Language Day in particular, our Erasmus student from Germany, Anastasia, has kindly written us a blog about her first impressions of UL, in both English AND German! See what phrases you can pick up!

Before I came to the University of Limerick I had no idea about Ireland. Now, after three weeks, I am absolutely in love with UL and Ireland.

My first week at UL was fabulous. UL organised every day events and specials. Besides important university events, we had Irish language workshops, movie nights, campus tours, cooking sessions, hurling matches and even some trips to beautiful spots near the area. Every day was new, exciting and full of experiences. There was even no time for homesickness.  I learned a lot about Ireland and its culture.

UL has a big campus. Even though, I got lost a few times on campus, there was always somebody who I was able to ask for help. The good thing about it is that you have everything you need at one place, even pubs! As well there is a nice atmosphere around the campus. UL is like a big student community. It’s very different from my University in Germany. So that’s why I like it even more!

Also, UL has to offer loads of activities. I joined some clubs and societies to meet new people and to keep fit. It’s lots of fun, especially if you try something new.

It’s all about new experiences!

Bevor ich an die Universität von Limerick gekommen bin, hatte ich keine Ahnung von Irland. Jetzt, nach drei Wochen, habe ich mich absolut in die UL und in Irland verliebt.

Meine erste Woche in Irland war fabelhaft. Die UL hat jeden Tag Veranstaltungen und kleine Überraschungen organisiert. Neben wichtigen Universitätsveranstaltungen, hatten wir Workshops über die irische Sprache, Kinoabende, Campustouren, Kocheinlagen, Hurling Spiele und sogar einige Reisen zu schönen Orten in der Umgebung. Jeder Tag war neu, spannend und voller Erfahrungen. Es blieb nicht einmal Zeit zum Heimweh haben. I habe viel über Irland und die irische Kultur gelernt.

Die UL hat einen großen Campus. Wenn ich mich auch einige Male auf dem Campus veriirt hatte, war immer jemand da, den ich um Hilfe bitten konnte. Das gute daran ist, dass man immer alles was man braucht an einem Platz hat – sogar Kneipen! Außerdem herrscht auf dem Campus eine wunderbare Atmosphäre. Die UL ist wie eine große Studentengemeinschaft. Die Universität unterscheidet sich in vielen Bereichen von meiner Universität in Deutschland. Das ist auch der Grund, wieso ich es umso mehr mag hier zu studieren!

Die UL bietet zudem auch noch sehr viele Aktivitäten an. Ich bin einigen Vereinen and Gesellschaften beigetreten, um neue Menschen kennenzulernen und um einen Ausgleich zu haben. Es macht sehr viel Spaß, vor allem wenn man neue Dinge ausprobiert.

Es dreht sich alles um neue Erfahrungen!
