University of Limerick Bucket List

The top 10 things you have to do while studying in the University of Limerick (UL)

– By UL International Student Stephanie Hodges

1. Go to Stables on a Friday night

Friday nights at the Stables Club on campus are International Night. Every other Friday has a fun theme, and you’re sure to have a blast. There is a dance floor inside and outside, with DJs playing some good music. You have to go to International Night at least once while you’re at UL… or every Friday night!

2. Join a crazy club

UL has 33 clubs and 37 societies. Between skydiving, surfing, dancing, and even tea appreciation, you’re sure to find a truly unique club or society that will enhance your time here. Why not go a little outside your comfort zone?

3. Go to the Cliffs of Moher

Just 45 minutes away from Limerick, the Cliffs of Moher are a must-see. They are absolutely breathtaking, and walking around the Cliffs is an experience unlike any other. If you go anywhere around Ireland… Go to the Cliffs of Moher! You won’t be disappointed.cliffs.png

4. Explore the trails and ruins on campus.

UL’s campus is beautiful, especially on a nice day. Be sure to take advantage of the many trails and ruins by exploring! You don’t have to leave campus to enjoy the beauty of Ireland.

5. Go to the Limerick City Milk Market.

On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings, the city of Limerick has a milk market. This is definitely worth checking out, especially on a Saturday. You’ll find loads of food, ranging from fresh fruits and veggies to breads and pastries. There are also stands that make unique meals, so bring your appetite!

6. Attend a concert or go to a trad music session at Scholars.

The Irish World Academy at UL puts on free  lunchtime concerts during the week… Catch one to hear some impressive music. If you’re looking for something a little more laid back, head to Scholars on a Wednesday night and you’ll hear traditional Irish music by local musicians.

7. Get something delicious from the Farmers Market on campus on Tuesdays.

Every Tuesday, a Farmers Market comes to the student union courtyard on campus. There are stands with fruits and veggies, tea, chocolates, and even paninis. Whatever you’re craving… You’ll find something tasty! There’s also a bike repair service at the market which is free for all students! 5.png

8. Check out the pubs of Limerick.

Limerick has some pretty nice pubs. With the city being so close to campus, it’s easy to get to many of the pubs. Whether you’re at Dolan’s, Costello’s, or Smyth’s… Sit back, relax, and enjoy some Guinness!

9. Head to a club for a night out.

If you’re into nightlife, clubbing in Limerick is a must. Even if you don’t drink, you can still dance the night away at any of the clubs in the city. Depending on the atmosphere you’re looking for, you could head to Icon, Angel Lane, or the Library!

10. Eat a full Irish breakfast.

You are in Ireland… So you should treat yourself! One of the dishes the Irish are known for are their traditional Irish breakfasts, which typically includes rashers, sausage, eggs, black pudding, and toast.10.png
