Volunteering has always been a big part of who I am. Before coming to Ireland, I was involved in several fundraising activities in Sierra Leone, supporting university colleagues who were seriously ill, some with kidney failure, fire burns, and liver disease. All of this is what drives my passion for helping others, the impact shows how important community support can be in saving lives.

As an international student at the University of Limerick and an ambassador for UL Global, I wanted to continue this work. That is why I joined the Run 100 February Challenge organised by the Irish Heart Foundation.
The challenge was to run or walk 100 kilometres in February while raising funds. I set a target of €200 and was able to raise €143. Even though I did not reach my full target, I am proud of what I achieved.
One thing I always believe in when it comes to fundraising is leading by example. I made sure I was the first person to donate to my own campaign. For me, it is important because people are more likely to support you when they see that you believe in your cause. No one will believe in it more than you do.
This experience also taught me the power of community. Every donation, no matter how small, contributed to something bigger. The funds raised will help train more people in CPR, which can save lives during heart attacks and strokes. Knowing that I contributed to something like this made the whole experience worth it.

Volunteering at the University of Limerick has really helped me grow. It has taught me how to serve people, how to work with others, and how to use my voice for a good cause. It also helped me understand that impact is not always about how much you raise, but about the effort you put in and the awareness you create.
This journey of helping people does not always have to be big or perfect. What matters is showing up and doing what you can.
For me, this is just another step in continuing the work I care about, both here in Ireland and back home in Sierra Leone.
I raised funds for the hearts I care about!!!!!
