Early Days at the University of Limerick by Shivakumar Koppad, UL International Student Ambassador

Me with the Iron man statue in front of the main building of the university. Though the university is very big , one will get acquainted with classrooms and locations in less than 2 weeks 🙂

Life is more beautiful with surprises and journey being the priority than destination.

My name is Shivakumar Koppad from Bangalore, India and I’m studying Master of Engineering in Information and Network Security at UL.

With enormous amount of thoughts waving in the mind about the green country when I boarded onto the Dublin flight from Bangalore, my inner self was actually very much ecstatic about the vibrant things which it was thriving to experience at UL – people from 100 different countries, one of the top 500 universities in the world with brilliant minds in various disciplines, a campus of more than 1600 acres being named as the top 10 green universities in the world etc.

I still remember the first walk into university where I saw the iron man statue, speaking to my intuition loudly “If you have the vigour to stand straight & stay unbreakable, there is nothing in the universe which can stop you , All needed is synchronization with the human spirit & its gigantic beauty”.

With the days passing on, I enrolled myself into a variety of clubs and societies which are an integral part of student life at UL. There are more than 70 clubs and societies and at some point felt maybe I have to enrol for a 4 year degree course just to make sure I am a member of all the societies 😛 😛 , Below I am sharing few images which I took in first 2 months at UL.

Halloween was an amazing event.
Halloween was an amazing event.

Every Friday there is an international party at The Stables but none the less there are events every single day across the campus.  Personally as I was a party freak, I just made sure to make it to as many events as I can and interact.  Henceforth tried to learn the culture, thought process, interests and the vision of students from various disciplines towards career and the grand event of life.

International party on Friday.

In my upcoming blogs, I will mention about my experiences during Christmas time, New Year and most fabulous of all time Snowfall and more about friends I made worldwide

    1. Hello Sahil,

Thank you for your message and congratulations on your offer of study at UL!

We are in the midst of the summer holidays here and Shivakumar has returned to India for a holiday so this may be why he hasn’t replied to your email. I will try to contact him and ask that he reply to you. In the meantime, I suggest that you contact the course director of your programme who will be able to advise you on job opportunities in the area of Information and Network Security.

I hope to welcome you to UL in the future.
